Pear Deck presentation
This could be tailored to the needs of our team for our parent math night in October, teaching them why and how we teach and use the partial products method of multiplication. Last year I did not create a presentation, but I think it woud go much bettter if I had a more engaging presentation so the parents could get an idea of what their children experience when in my classroom.
Due to time constraints, I will not be able to include parents in all of the activities I will use with my students. However, I did add a couple interactive slides where it asks the students to write in the boxes to answer the questions. In class, I will use this after modeling, so small groups can work on completing problems I write on the board. This should give proper scaffolding so students are ready to complete their practice independently when they are finished.

Bri, looks good. I think I'll use it this year.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of using Pear Deck at a parent night so parents can see the interactivity of some of the things you do in class. Did you look at any of the interactive features of Pear Deck? What are your thoughts about them and what are some ways that you might use Pear Deck in class? Are there any things about Pear Deck that you didn't like?
ReplyDeleteI left out most of the interactive pieces only due to time constraints for parent night. However, in class, I will add these features. Students will be able to add work they come up with while working in small groups. This will add to our whole group discussion and target areas I may need to revisit before allowing time for independent practice.
DeletePear Deck is not as user friendly as I had hoped. I still can't figure out how to delete slides, which I'm sure I'll figure out as I go. That is how most things are, and I've heard great things from other teachers about this as an interactive teaching tool, but I think it's something I will gain comfort with the more I use it. Are there some features I may have missed as easy interactive pieces to add for something quick during parent night or for a quick assessment? I know I can add an "ask a question" slide, but other than that?
I don't know if this is something you missed, but I often like to create my slides using Google Slides then import them into PearDeck. I feel that since Slides is a presentation only medium I create presentations with a little more weight to them then I can take those and add questions to existing slides or make slides that ask a question about information on a previous slide.
DeleteBri, I'm so glad you created this for our math night... TEAM CAPTAIN, BRI ERICKSON! I think the parents could really benefit from viewing the presentation and it would be great for them to have access to the link at home in case they wanted to go back and get clarification on the information we present.
